Birthday Gutters

Each of my kids asked me yesterday, which was my birthday, what I did. The answer...
"Rehung the Gutters".

Last winter we had THE record snowfall. More snow fell over the winter than had ever been recorded before. It was a lot of snow. We almost couldn't get in or out because the snow got so deep. After a while, we couldn't push it off the road any more with our little ATV snowplows. I share the road with one neighbor, who ended up borrowing a relative's front end loader, the kind used to build freeways, and used it to clear the road. That machine was massive. It sure did the job. We had a great road for the rest of the winter.

Other than that, I fared pretty well, except for the gutters. They stated to pull away from the house. At times I supported sections with 2x4s from the ground. The majority of the hangers just couldn't take the load and gave way. Before the coming snows this year, the hangers needed to be replaced.

Don't you just love the internet. All the locale stores just had the small, flimsy, hangers that were up there already. But on the internet, I found these great heavy duty hangers, Hangdogs.

An old, slightly bent, gutter hanger is in front and a new Hangdog is in back. They claim there are 10 times stronger.

This is the "before" shot of a section of my gutters. You can see that almost all the old gutter hangers have failed.

Here is the "after" shot looking the other direction. I wasn't going to move the ladder just to take a picture from the same spot. I more than doubled the number of hangers.
Bring on the snow!
We're Ready!

As for my birthday, I turned 61. I remember when my dad turned 61. In my mind, he was really old then. I sure don't feel that way. I'm about as healthy as I've ever been and generally feel good.

OK, so you can bring on the old jokes now. I probably deserve it. Like I've told many of you, my favorite bumper sticker reads "In every older body is a young person wondering "What the hell happened!!".
