On the way to Yosemite, I swung out to Highway 1 for a few days to experience the North Coast. I don't know why they call it the North Coast, maybe because it is north of San Francisco. There are several hundred miles of coastline in California north of there. I was there three days, and it was beautiful sunny weather, except for the shoreline, that was fog. For the first two days I never did see the ocean. I was beginning to wonder if it was really there. You could hear it, but not see it.
Finally, on the third day, the fog burned off and revealed the coastline. This spot is one of the reasons I like Geocaching. It is a private oceanside park, open to the public, where someone has place a geocache. It's about a half mile hike in. There are no signs letting you know its there. There was just a couple of other people on the trail. Basically though, I had the entire place to myself.
