Small Projects

It always seems to be the case that one project leads to another.
Here's two examples

I made this coat rack last week because I thought it would be a good idea to add some more hanger ability to the entry/mud room. There was one on the opposite wall by the door that was basically a piece of bare wood with some hooks attached. I wanted to get it down since it was ugly, and besides, what can be more practical than additional garment/bag/tool hanging capability. I am an engineer after all.

So I made this one and attached it to the wall. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself. The problem arose when I removed the old ugly one by the door. There were some major holes in the wall behind it. Why?? Who knows. The previous owners were a little strange and what better way to fix a hole than to cover it up with a scrap stick of wood. So I set about to fixing the wall, when it struck me, maybe that isn't such a bad idea. I could make another coat rack and cover the holes. That would be a lot more fun than repairing the wall.

This is the result. Not too shabby. AND, with the extra hooks I now have a place for all my hats.

By the way, I had to go to two different Lowe's as I bought out all the hooks the first one had.

Project number two was replacing the refrigerator. The house didn't come with one and the one I first purchased just didn't fit the allocated space right. The door hit the wall in such a way that it would only open 2/3rds of the way. After much research, I found a few refrigerators that would fit. Lucky me, at the appliance store, they had this counter depth refrigerator in the scratch and dent section half off, and it fit, well almost. It was a little too tall. But HEY, it is half off. I'll make it fit. So I raised the cabinet above the refrigerator. It looks great and the door opens all the way.

Anyone out there need a new refrigerator? This one is going cheap.
