Redwoods

I just love the redwoods in Northern California.

Even the trip down the Oregon Coast in incredible and worth the trip all by itself. This is the view from a spot alongside 101 where I stopped for lunch.

I've been really lucky so far. I'm sitting in the front of the motor home at Harris Beach State Park in Brookings, OR. There are a couple of sites with spectacular views and I managed to get one of them. So there is this wonderful view, power, water, cable TV and Internet. Not Bad!!

Not to rub it in, but this is the view from the front of the motor home this morning.

And this is a picture I took on the beach here the other night.

But the Redwoods are the reason I came. And one of the hikes I most like is the Boy Scout Trail. The last time I was here, I hiked the trail several times. It was a religious and more importantly a healing experience for me. Those who know me understand why. Not so much this time, but still a magical, mystical place.

This is the road to the Boy Scout Trail head. It winds right through the middle of this redwood forest.

But the trail itself just defies words. There is no way I can adequately describe it. I was again struck by the quiet. Nothing could be heard except the the dew falling from the trees. The trail is about 6 miles out and back. And it takes a long time to hike, at least for me. You just can't go fast. There is too much to sense with each step. And it's like walking in a church sanctuary, you have to be quiet and respectful. So I'm not going to write any more. Here's some pics taken along the way.

I love you you described this place. Makes me want to load up my little ones and Brad and come join you, except then it certainly wouldn't be quiet...!
