I just got back from walking the beach on this moonless, clear and cold night. It is just awe inspiring. There was no one else there, at least as far as I could tell. Even though it was so dark, you could still make your way by star light, with a little flash now and then from the lighthouse. I wish I was a better writer at times and could really relate how it was, but I'm not. Hopefully you will get a little of the idea. I love the beach at night. Even getting a little disoriented adds to the experience. How far am I from the surf? I can't tell because the roar seems all around me at times. Is that a log on the beach ahead? There are so many stars! It's hard to believe that there are millions of stars and galaxies even where there appears to be nothing. Recently some astronomers got the powers to be to allow them then to train all their telescopes for very long exposures at the same spot in space where there appeared to be nothing. When they added up all the results, what they found shocked them. There were billions of stars and millions of galaxies in this minute part of space where everyone thought nothing was. Its almost a religious experience being on the beach at night and soaking in all the smells, sounds, stars, etc. And wondering about things like this. Its so good to be alive.
Speaking of being alive, most of you know that one of my passions is small town bakeries. I stopped at one in South Bend for lunch that was one of the best. It had only two tables. It became clear that you were just expected to share when the girl brought out my order and placed it at an empty place at one of them. My lunch was a turkey sandwich, a cup of corn and smoked salmon chowder, and a chocolate chip cookie. And they had bread pudding! I love bread pudding! How could I resist a serving of Pina Colada Bread Pudding? I couldn't of course. It was really good.
