Cassiar Mountains

As I continued up the Cassiar Highway, the mountains continued to be impressive. Every few miles there would be another stunning view. I took quite a few pictures, but could have taken much more. The Highway can hardly be called a highway for much of the way. The road is at least paved the entire way. Paving in the northern third is chip seal over what was just a gravel road in the last few years. I don't think they bothered to grade it much before pouring oil and gravel on it. Let's just say it gets a little bouncy at times.

BUT, the scenery more than makes up for it.

I scored again in campgrounds. This time I stayed at a forest service campground on Dease Lake. This Forest Service campground was just rebuilt. The fire rings hadn't even been used yet. And I again was the only one here. The lake however is still frozen as were all the lakes along the highway. This campground is not mentioned in any of the guidebooks. I read about it on the Catalina 36 sailboat website. I guy who used to own a sailboat took a trip to Alaska a few years ago and wrote about his trip. I didn't remember much, but this campsite stuck in my head for some reason. And it will continue to do so since I saw several moose along the shore and a wolf set out on the ice crossing it.

At the end of the Cassiar, you cross into The Yukon Territory. I backtracked some as I needed to get a picture of the motor home next to The Signpost Forest.

I also wanted to get a fishing license since I plan on spending a lot of time in the Yukon this summer. Their price structure was unique: $10 for one day, $20 for three days and $30 for the entire season. Guess which one I bought.
