Atlin, BC

While driving the Alcan in the Yukon Territory, I came across this little First Nation Culture Centre. They had a small display of some of their art. I was surprised that it was coastal in design. When I asked about it I was told that they were a coastal clan that eventually settled inland.

On the road to Atlin, BC.

Atlin is a small community just south of the border from the Yukon Territory. It's the farthers NW town in BC. While the road there is mostly gravel, it wasn't all that bad. The town of Atlin is situated on, what else, Atlin Lake. The town was pretty deserted when I was there. It appeared to be mainly a summer retreat for folks. Interestingly, it is close to Skagway, just maybe thirty miles to the west. But it's over a 150 mile drive.

Most of the lake was still frozen which might explain the lack of folks around.

Atlin was a gold rush town sometime just after the Klondike Gold Rush.

What I like to do when I arrive at a new location is to park the motor home at my campsite and go exploring on the motorcycle. I came across this hot spring up one of the gravel logging type roads that lead out of town. I was wishing I had brought trunks and a towel.

I really haven't been able to do much of this type of exploring as there just isn't many roads around and where there have been some, they have been snow bound.

This is a interesting little gorge and waterfall I came across. There was nothing to indicate that it was there. I had just stopped alongside the road and heard this noise.

Neat pictures! I enjoyed your post. Have never been as far north as Atlin but will be visiting southern Alaska this summer. Can hardly wait!
