Fishing the Firehole River

I took up Fly Fishing a while ago. I'm not very good at, don't seem to catch much. But I really enjoy just getting out on a river somewhere. Folks tell me I need to slow down some and this is a good way to do that. AND, I'm in Yellowstone National Park, one of the fly fishing capitals of the world! I fished the Firehole River at a spot I saw while riding my bicycle the other day. Fished all morning into the early afternoon. Caught a couple of smaller trout. Size didn't matter anyway as the entire river is “catch and release”. I kept seeing this big one jumping in this one eddy. I'd put my fly right on his nose (yes, I get lucky and can do that sometimes) and I swear, it would take a sniff and look for something better. But I'm not complaining. I didn't see another sole the entire time, it was sunny and the scenery was just beyond description.

Later in the day and the next day I went looking for wildlife. I saw a buffalo sharing a meadow with a coyote. Watching this coyote hunt was really interesting, especially when it would jump into a mouse hole, or whatever.

An interesting bison view
