This year we opted to spend 6 weeks at the Voyager RV Resort in Tucson. Like the resort in Yuma, there were a lot of vacant spaces since the usual Canadian crowd wasn't here due to all the Covid border restrictions. All the indoor amenities were closed at the resort. We were able to get a lot of pickleball playing done along with riding the e-bikes and hiking.

One day we were riding our e-bikes and stopped to talk to a man who was riding the same e-bike as Mark. Shortly later a couple rode up who were also riding a couple of Rad Power E-Bikes. After a bit, out of the blue, they asked if we were Mark and Mona!! What??? It turns out they were friends with Butch and Dave, who had told them about us, our adventures around Squaw Lake, and that we were planning on staying at the Voyager Resort. They had told us about Shawn and Dan, that they were staying at the Voyager , but we hadn't had a chance to look them up yet as we had just arrived a few days earlier. What a great surprise meeting them on the trail. We quickly became good friends.
One day the four of us went to the Pima Air Museum. They have all types of aircraft on display. It was impressive wandering around seeing all the aircraft. Some were very small, others were HUGE, and everything in between. I'm sure we will go back again sometime.
Shawn and Dan pretty much ride their e-bikes every day when they aren't up in Phoenix visiting their two granddaughters, which is the main reason they were in the area. We would join them many times for an afternoon ride. We also spent several evenings around the campfire just enjoying each other's company. One of our favorite rides was around the Saguaro East National Parks's road. There were lots of hills which the e-bikes took in stride.
This is one of the many saguaro in the national park. It must be really ancient to have so many arms.
Next door to The Voyager Resort is a rather new housing development. The development is surrounded by state trust desert land. Over the years, single track bicycle and hiking trails have been built. This past year folks from the development and the resort have been building mosaic art in the area. Some, like the one above, are very creative. Several, like this one, are a cut above the others. We met the lady doing them. The is from the resort and got started this year because Covid had prevented her from doing many of the other activities she enjoys. She is a real artist.
Toward the end of stay at the resort, Jim and Vicki camped at a favorite state park of theirs outside of Tucson. They had just received their second Covid vaccine shots a couple of weeks earlier, so we could now be together without all the Covid fears. We celebrated by kayaking together on Lake Arivaca and getting together a couple of time "inside" our trailer. It's been over a year since we've been able to do anything like that. It was GREAT!. We can hardly wait now to gather and HUG family, grand kids and friends!
