Five Utah National Parks in Five Weeks - Arches

My sister-in-law, Martha's, birthday gift from her hubby Gary was a camping trip to each of the five national parks in Utah. When they first mentioned it, I jumped at the chance to tag along. In hindsight, I probably invited myself along, but they were kind enough to go along with the idea. Our first stop was branding in Montana, then 3 stops on the way to Moab Utah. See pics in the previous blog. Our first National Park was Arches. We arrived late to find the one campground full. It's a very small campground with only about 40 sites, half of which are first come, first serve. At the visitors center, the ranger said that all the camping sites are taken by 7:30am, when they open. In other words, there is a line up outside the center before they open. She said if you want to ensure a campsite, you should be in line at 6am! Oh well we thought. Then another ranger comes up behind her and asks if we want a campsite, that one just opened up. I can't believe it, but we actually thought about not taking it. I went to the campsite and Gary and Martha camped along the river just outside the park. Another nice campsite I might add. When I got to the campground, the ranger there said it was my lucky day, I not only got a campsite, but could stay for up to seven days, and both of us could stay in the one campsite. On top of that, he moved us to an even better site when Gary and Martha arrived. It was just unreal. Everyone else at the campground had to be in line by 6:30am, and we got our site around 5pm.

That's us on the right

Another treat was that one day a series of thunder storms came through the area. This was special because it rarely happens in Arches.
