Zion NP in Winter

One would think that Zion National Park in Southwestern Utah is my favorite National Park given how often I've stayed there the last few years. While it is pretty high up on the list of favorites, the main reason I stay there is that it is so convenient when traveling to Arizona, etc. It is less that a half hour from I-15, the main route south for me. In the fall, winter and spring, there are few people, the weather is usually pretty nice and the campground is all but deserted.

I especially like to hike and bicycle in the lower canyon during the off season. Above the canyon is usually snow bound during these seasons. This year I arrived a short while after it had snowed in the valley. I road my bicycle up the valley one day. The temperature was around 60 degrees up to this point in the valley. It is where the valley significantly narrows. After this point, the temperature dropped a good 20 degrees.

I did finish the ride to the end of the road, stopped for a couple of pictures but didn't linger. I was freezing having worn just a jersey and shorts! Definately not one of my better moves, it is winter. But, the scenery was worth suffering through the cold.
