I had a wonderful wedding experience this weekend. I will probably get some of the facts wrong as it's complicated, but I'll give it a try.
The groom, Morgan, is the son of my sister-in-law, Martha. He met his bride, Claudia, in Switzerland at a french language class. They are both in Europe working on advanced college degrees.
Claudia is from Peru. Spanish of course is her native language. Morgan is from Western Washington. They converse with each other in French and are gradually learning each others native language. It was really special how they read their vows in the others language. It was hard to tell with Morgan though as he had a hard time not crying while reciting his. It was quite obvious that these two are madly in love with each other. It was especially cute to see Morgan discretely whisper french translations in Claudia's ear at times.
Since Claudia is from Peru, they had the wedding catered by a company that specialized in cuisine from there. Everyone was just amazed at how good it was. Then a dance troupe performed some Peru dances.
The dance troupe also taught the quests several "traditional" dances. I think Claudia must have thought we Americans not very coordinated as she seemed to have this natural rhythm for the music. Some of us actually started to get it after a while. Here is a short video of the dancing. As you can tell, we had a wonderful time. This is my first time uploading a video to the blog so I hope it turns out.
Oh, I forgot to mention that the wedding was at a lavender farm on Vashon Island in Puget Sound. It was a great experience, well worth the trip from Idaho to attend. In fact, we all enjoyed it so much that there is talk about a bunch of us going to Peru next year when they repeat their vows there for Claudia's family and friends.
