Peekaboo

One of my favorite trails, if not THE favorite, is the Peekaboo trail in Bryce Canyon National Park. So when I went to pick up my new dog, Molly, in Southern Utah, I wanted to spend some time in the park, especially to hike the Peekaboo Trail again. I hiked it last year about this time of year, with Gary and Martha. They were very patient with me, slowing their pace to let me take pictures. This year I decided to hike it the opposite direction from last time to get a new perspective. What can I say. This trail lives up to it's name. Every couple of hundred feet, around the next corner, there is a totally new spectacular view to look at. It is visual overload, especially for a photographer. Here is just a very small sampling of the unreal views along the trail.

This was a fun shot. I used the circular polarizing filter to darken the blue sky as much a possible. Then I greatly underexposed the picture. With my photo editing software I brought everything back to the proper exposure except the sky and added a little contrast. Do you like the result? I do.

The day I left, I got up early enough to watch the sunrise. At first I thought I was going to be disappointed as there was a cloud blocking the sunrise. Then things started to glow. I didn't get the shots of the canyon I was hoping to get, but with a view like this, I'm not complaining. It was good to be alive.

And the views of the canyon in the early morning weren't all that bad either. Just different than what I expected.

Maybe "all that bad" isn't a good description. The whole sunrise was AWESOME! I've decided this area of the country is going to get many more visits from me.

As always, your pictures are spectacular. Thanks for sharing...I think we may need to load up the minivan and head there ourselves.
