Cape Sabastian

Did I mention that one of my past times is Geocaching, a form of high tech treasure hunting? I'm sure I have, but I'm going to mention it again. One of the things I like best about it is that I have visited many places I would never have known about, much less gone to, without there being geocaches there. One case in point is the Bombsite from the last blog. This time I went to Cape Sabastian because several geocaches are there, all of which mentioned how great the trail is. It's the reverse of most trails I'm used to, in that it starts at the top and you hike your way down. It's only a few miles, but all down hill, and of course, up hill for the return trip. One of the geocaches is hidden at the bottom of the trail, but where the main trail goes left, this geocache is right just a few hundred feet. I couldn't believe it when I got there, just on the other side of the brush are two small inlets, cracks really, mostly of sandstone. Cavities were eroded into the stone which was quite striking. The colors in the sandstone, the wild wave action just a few feet down in the cracks, the spray, made for an awesome place. I spent a long time there just soaking it in, and taking pictures of course.

Just one of the many sandstone formations

I especially liked this bowl on the ledge between the two inlets

This was the view near the top looking north later in the day.

When I got back to the motorhome, the sun was starting to set. It was pretty much cloudy and foggy all day, so I didn't expect much in the way of a sunset and wasn't planning on taking sunset pictures. Just as it was starting to get dark, all of sudden the sky just started to glow. I had gone down to the beach to try to take a few pictures of the seafoam. Good thing I had the big camera. It's heavy, but sure it sure can take some good pictures. Let's just say it was really amazing.

Sunset at Harris Beach

I did get shots of some seafoam. You can see how it's starting to glow. This isn't quite what I was expecting, but you get the idea. I like it.
