Mona Loves Canada

Mona loves Southeastern British Columbia Canada. Every few months she has to go and get herself a Canada fix. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that she raised her kids in Bonners Ferry Idaho, which is just south of the Canadian border. In fact, the nearest town to where they lived was Creston British Columbia. It's like me needing a saltwater fix once in a while. As I'm writing this I'm in Yachats Oregon on the Oregon coast overlooking the ocean. Mona is in Africa on a mother-daughter vacation. Maybe we will get her to blog on that trip someday.

In early August we went on a camping trip up to the area around New Denver British Columbia. Not only did it help with Mona's Canada addiction but also this was a camping trip with my North Idaho family. Prior to the family arriving Mona and I rode this a great Rail Trail north out of New Denver along Slocan Lake. We had ridden the trail before and we're really anxious to ride it again.

We managed to snag two campsites, which were huge, next to one another in the campground. The grand kids had a blast riding the trails and roads in the campground. A few weeks later little Canaan, not quite 3 yet, was riding his pedal bike. And I mean riding it, no training wheels or dad holding on.

Aw, the dog's life. Molly and John are pretty much inseparable.

One day Mona and I drove the three mountain bike enthusiasts, Theresa, John and Michelle, up to the top of this mountain near our Campground. There is a great mountain bike trail all the way down. In fact they almost beat Mona and I back to the campground.

Another day we drove to Nakusp and enjoyed a long soak in their Hot Springs. Then we went to dinner in town. Later we strolled along this great walkway along their waterfront. It's several miles long.  The Canadians sure do know how to build parks.

One of the highlights of the trip was on the return home we took the ferry across Kootenay Lake. I think it's touted as being the longest free ferry in the world. Anyway, the kids loved it, and so did the adults.
