I'm not very good at keeping the blog up to date. Here it is November and I'm watching the grand daughter, Mila, in Seattle. She is on my lap as I type and sort pictures. What is fascinating to a one year old watching someone type on the computer? A while ago we were watching the snow falling outside. That's right, it's early November in Seattle and it is snowing outside. It therefore is a good time to blog.
Here are some pics from our summer adventures. As I'm going through the pictures I'm amazed at how much we did.
For the last several years now summer's have started with branding calves at my son-in-laws family ranch in Montana.
My main task has been to give the annual inoculations to the cows. It is quite the process as I have discussed in previous blogs.
This year my grand daughter got to ride solo.
Several times during the summer I like to ride the "Trail of the Hiawatha" bicycle trail. It's a rail with many tunnels and trestles. The main way people ride it is downhill the 15 or so miles, along the gentle 3% grade and then take a shuttle buss back up. When I ride by myself I usually ride most of the way down and then back up. On one of the trips Mona and I took my two grand children, Saray and Raif. There is this great spot just off the trail next to a stream which make for a nice and cool spot for lunch.
We also road the trail with a couple of Mona's long time friends from Bonners Ferry, Jane and Charlie. We stopped at the same lunch spot.
Jane and Charlie had not been on their bicycles for a while. Here they are coming out of one on the tunnels. As you can see they are not having any fun at all.

We also went camping on Priest Lake with my oldest daughter and her family. Raif and his Dad couldn't get enough fishing.
Celine was busy doing everything she could to keep up with her older brother and sister. She wasn't too good at fishing but was amazing at kayaking.
Not too far from Priest Lake is this crazy natural water slide. It's a bit of a hike to get too, almost two miles but once there the hike was well worth the effort.
The wild fires this year were terrible. We didn't have much in North Idaho. This one is across the lake from my place on Rose Lake. But there were really bad fires all around us in British Columbia, Washington, and, Montana. The smoke was so thick many days that you could only see for a block or so.
In spite of the fires, Mona and I decided to go camping in BC. One day the wind actually blew the smoke out of the area, The days before and after these pictures by our campsite at Summit Lake you could see maybe halfway across the lake.
Pool Parties are always fun with grand children. This one was in Seattle.
We had two first birthdays. A family tradition is on you first birthday you get a big piece of chocolate cake to devour any way you want, which usually results in a big facial mess. But not Mila. She just poked and hers and ate what she wanted like a real lady.
Caanann however had different ideas. Once he decided he like chocolate cake he went at it with typical boy gusto. And the he celebrated his victory!
The big event in Sandpoint Idaho is their annual music festival. One of the acts was the B52's. Frankly, I had never heard of them but Mona's brother and sister-in-law, Tracey and Kathy were fans.
And finally I joined the Goode's for that annual kayak and camping trip along the Clark Fork River in Montana. Janice, the family matriarch, was very much missed as she this was one of her favorite activities. We were all sure she was watching over us all.
There were more activities we did, but this is enough. The next blog will be on our trip to the east coast of Canada. And Mila almost fell asleep on my lap so I put her down for her morning nap.
