Some Summer Activities

Here's some of our summer adventures:

One of my favorite events in Coeur d'Alene is "Car de Lane".  It's an event where hundreds of classic cars from around the region, that being Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, come to Coeur d' Alene for a parade and street show.  My youngest, Teresa and her husband John, live on the main street through the downtown area.  The family gathers at their house to watch all the cars.  Celine really got into waving at the cars since most would wave back.

Mona and I spent a weekend in Seattle a couple of weeks ago.  I wanted to show her one of my favorite hikes in the area, Twin Falls just outside of North Bend.  One the way up the trail, we met a couple coming out who told us about this grotto area just off the trail.  In the many times I've hiked this area for the last 50+ years I've never known about this spot.  It was really something.  .

It's too bad that the state parks haven't built a trail into it.

On Wednesday evenings during the summer there is a mountain biking race up in Faragut State Park north of Coeur d'Alene.  This particular day they also had a kid's race that Saray joined in on.  The trail was very muddy with lots of trees down because a rather severe thunder storm had just been through the area.  In fact I was surprised that they didn't cancel the event with so much lightning, rain and wind.  There were several trees in the road on the way to the park.  No bad weather is going to stop my girls.  In fact tonight I'm watching the grandkids so Michele can go road biking with some of her friends.  As I arrived at her house, it was only 102 degrees outside!

Another of my favorite trails is to Revett Lake on the Idaho-Montana boarder not far from where I live in Rose Lake.  It's a pretty drive up to the trail head along the Coeur d'Alene River to Thompson Pass.  On the trail along the way you pass this little series of waterfalls.

Speaking of the Coeur d'Alene River, last weekend Mona and I kayaked a section of it.  We had a great time and can hardly wait to do it again.  It will have to be soon as the water level is going down fast.
