Spring "Classic Car" Fever

Each spring Coeur d'Alene has a large classic car show.  Hundreds of cars show up, with the opening event being a parade through the city center.  My daughter lives on the main drag so she has a front row seat.  The parade actually starts a few blocks down from her house, but with so many cars, we get to see most of them from her front yard.

This is especially fun for me.  Even the grandkids like it, more so that they get to chalk up the sidewalk.

I can name the make, model and year for most of the cars.  I wonder what that says about me.  I think it means that I grew up around cars.  My dad was a mechanic and owned a gas station.  There must be more to it than that.  OK, let's not  go there.

I get really nostalgic at these car shows.  This is my first car.  A 1956 Chevy Coup.  What a sweet machine!  It's only downfall was that it blew the engine on my wedding night.  My new wife thought I was really something around cars and said after we stopped alongside the freeway "Well, go fix it".  I knew that engine sound and what it meant.  There was no fixing that engine with a hunk of metal that was suppose to be inside now sticking out through the side.  My Dad and I had an interesting conversation that night when I had to ask him to go retrieve the car for me.  I didn't have the time, money or a place to keep and work on the car, so I had my Dad sell it.  That was after I tried to convince him to keep it for me in his garage.   That car in the picture was one of my first love's, The other, the girl in the picture, I kept  for 40 years!

Hey kids, if you ever want to get me great Father's Day present, get me one of these.... preferably in two tone blue.  I have a place to keep it now.  They're only selling for around $45,000 these days.
