For the next several days I essentially followed the route the Klondike Gold Rush stampeders followed from Skagway to Dawson City.
After a while heading southeast from Dawson City a spur road leads to the towns of Mayo and Keno City. Keno City is at the end of the road, about 40 miles of gravel road from Mayo. I stayed at a small lake outside of Mayo and took the motorcycle one day to Keno City, “The End of the Silver Trail”. There are several active silver mines in the Keno City area. Keno City has two other businesses:
The first is the Mining Museum. Since I now live in the “Silver Valley” in Idaho, also known for it's silver mines, I found this little Museum quite interesting. It's also has displays in three other smaller buildings.
The other business was the Snack Bar. Now this place was really something else! Not like any other business I've ever been in.
Here is just one inside wall. The cash register was an antique push button kind where the numbers pop up. The owner was fun to talk to, we chatted for well over an hour.
This poor bear was alongside the road on the way back. It was really depressing to see as it was in very bad shape, limping on 3 paws. I don't suspect it lasted too much longer.
